1- Improper packing is a common way that items are damaged while being transported during the relocation. By leaving empty in boxes, there is room for items to move around and break. Also empty space while stacking boxes on top of each other can cause the bottom box to collapse due to lack of support. Packing materials go a long way in keeping items protected during a move. By using materials such as, bubble wrap, butchers paper, shrink wrap and blankets, items are less likely to be damaged even when a mistake in handling occurs. Packing materials are generally inexpensive and can be purchased at various locations in and around your community. While packing its important to list on the box itself if the items inside are fragile very clearly so the individual handling the box knows to treat it with extra care.
2- Use of improper moving equipment is a common mistake by those doing the move themselves. This is because equipment is expensive and not easy to use, piano trollies for example must be used in the correct manner and done so with due care. Failure to do so will result in expensive damages that far outweigh the costs of hiring a professional for the job. Individuals who do a move themselves have to use a means of transporting the items, hiring large moving trucks is one option however can be very costly. If you’re not used to driving such a vehicle especially full of your belongings it can be extremely risky as they don’t handle the same as a normal car. If you’re not used to using certain moving equipment such as trollies to move heavy items you can risk not only damaging the item, but injuring yourself by using it in the incorrect manner.
3- Poor technique can cause great damage to your body and the items you’re moving. Packing the moving truck is an important part of the relocation process, if done incorrectly the amount of items that are able to fit into the truck greatly diminishes. This can result in added trips in between destinations along with the load being more inclined to move around during transport. If the use of straps inside the truck isn’t used there is a high possibility that items of substantial weight can move around during the transportation. You must remember to use materials to prevent items from rubbing along the sides of the truck and causing damage. Proper lifting techniques are extremely important in regards to lifting heavy items, it’s very difficult to bring these items downstairs and around corners. Failing to use proper techniques and equipment can cause serious injury to yourself.
4- While the move is being coordinated they’re many obstacles that can get in the way of the move itself. It’s important to take a few minutes and see what could cause issues and create potential dangers to those while lifting items to and from the truck or vehicle. A short list of what can cause problems are overhanging trees, low hanging lights, garden hoses, toys on the floor, pets and any loose items. While carrying your furniture it’s difficult to see what might be in your way, if you were to fall or trip while carrying a heavy item this can cause great injury for yourself and the individual you might be lifting with and cause substantial damage to the item.
